Part Two
Part Three

A time that will stay with Sarah's mother for the rest of her life.

  • After accidents, suicide is the most common cause of death among young people aged 15 to 24
  • The figure for 15 to 19 year olds is rising
  • Approximately 300 teenagers commit suicide every year

These startling statistics led to the making of this powerful and thought provoking DVD. It tells the story of Sarah's last day and, through her thoughts, we get an insight into her state of mind. ‘If only I'd…' is heard so often after a young person takes their own life. Whether it's a friend, relation, teacher or counsellor the guilt they often feel that ‘ I should have done something' will stay for a long time.

‘Friday … 21.03' covers a range of issues that will be readily identifiable by young people and is supported by presentation notes to open up discussion on:

Why do young people commit suicide?

What signs should we look out for?

What can we do to help?

The pack can be used to support training, form part of a Resource Centre or be a discussion leader for:

  • Counselling & Advice Groups
  • INSET – Teacher Development
  • School or College Group Tutorials
  • Curriculum support e.g. Social Education, Psychology
  • Health Promotion Centres

“ Very impressed by both the video content and the accompanying discussion notes. The video picked up on all the important points, which, in the vast majority of instances, contribute to the circumstances leading to youth suicide. I feel that it will be a very valuable tool both in our work with schools and also in our training. I have watched many videos on this subject but this one really ‘hit the nail on the head'. Very obviously made by people who knew what they were talking about. Congratulations to all involved.”

Doreen, Out-Reach Director, Ipswich Samaritans

“… a great piece of work, ideal for class tutorials… very moving.”

Brian Lowry, Science Lecturer, West Suffolk College
