RICHARD’S WORLD Total Running Time 30 minutes.

Richard is 35 years old and has ADHD (Attention Disorder). It has created problems for him due to the condition not being diagnosed until recently. Richard was given a camcorder to record his personal thoughts. The DVD is the result of 3 months of recording often painful memories and is divided into sections.

  • PAINFUL MEMORIES – his early years and disrupted home life
  • EARLY SIGNS – what should have been noticed (strong language)
  • REALISATION – an acceptance of who he is
  • ADAPTATION – finding himself
  • TREATMENT – personal thoughts on the medical care he received.

HEALING HANDS Total Running Time 19 minutes.

Healing Hands is a charity set up to send volunteer care professionals to work with people suffering from the trauma and consequences of war. Victims need help long after the front line aid workers have left. This video diary follows a team of therapists during a visit to Bosnia and records many of the haunting and heart-breaking stories.
Apart from giving an insight into life during the civil war, it demonstrates how techniques such as massage, reflexology, aromatherapy, acupuncture and reiki can help to restore the spirit as well as the mind. As such, it provides a discussion leader on the value of ‘alternative therapies’ and as a social commentary on the human cost of war.

MARVA Total Running Time 30 minutes.

In 1964, Marva came to England from Barbados. This DVD is her account of that experience. She talks about the discrimination she faced, the cultural differences and how 'new' people are too often treated with suspicion. 'Marva' breaks down the barriers that stop communities accepting those that come to make a new life here.
The issues discussed apply to everyone and are as relevant now as they were over 40 years ago. It has been produced in 4 sections:

Part 1 - Why come to England? - first impressions and expectations
Part 2 - Discrimination faced - prejudice experienced as a newcomer
Part 3 - Lost History - looks at slavery and impact of 'losing' roots.
Part 4 - Regrets? - personal reflection
